Who We are

Our Mission

The Weston Plant Pollinator Alliance is a new organization formed by residents concerned about troubling declines of wild pollinator species and native biodiversity loss throughout Massachusetts, and globally; but also inspired by the native pollinator conservation movement in neighboring towns and across New England.

We are a broad alliance of naturalists, scientists, conservationists, gardeners, beekeepers, and business owners. We believe that environmental awareness and conservation begin with simple steps at home and that it is incumbent upon all of us to work together to solve the world’s pollinator crisis.

As a working group within Sustainable Weston Action Group we work in tandem with other members and town committees to achieve a healthier, resilient community.

Through short-term projects and longer term initiatives we bring community members together in a shared endeavor to protect the animals and plants that restore biodiversity and resiliency within our landscapes.
Conservation
We inspire people of all ages in Weston to take action restoring and protecting habitat for a diversity of wild pollinator animals, especially threatened species, in yards, neighborhoods, parks, and conservation lands across Town.

We believe that the choices we make today in our landscapes will determine the future health and viability of our planet, and that collectively small individual actions can bring impactful solutions to the global pollinator crisis and climate change.

Education
We provide engaging, accessible, science-based programming, as well as resources and tools to educate and empower people of all ages to take action on behalf of wild pollinators and native plant communities.

Community Engagement
We collaborate with residents, landowners, schools, Town agencies, and other local conservation groups to leverage our collective resources and energies into balanced, actionable plans that promote pollinator health, native biodiversity, and sustainable ecosystems in our built environment and on conservation lands.

Our 2020-2021 Goals

Build Awareness
  • Bring community awareness to the pollinator crisis, focusing attention on wild pollinator conservation, in particular, since many of these animals are "keystone" species critical to sustaining biodiversity and the complex web of natural ecosystems.
Inspire Action
  • Inspire Weston community members to help sustain native pollinators from early spring to late fall through simple land practices and measures that can be implemented at both the individual and community level.
Launch Dedicated Resource
  • Create accessible educational resources that drive “ecological best practices” in every yard and garden. Activate diverse audiences across a broad spectrum of age groups and interests through creative programming and outreach initiatives.
Recruit Pollinator Partners
  • Recruit 50 Weston households to become Pollinator Hosts in our Making Way for Pollinators initiative taking place in backyards and gardens across town.
Partner For Sustainability
  • Join forces with related Weston sustainability initiatives to coordinate policies on a community wide level effectively in a targeted, balanced manner that recognizes budget constraints and multiple constituencies.
